Meter Management

Add Energy Meters and Virtual Meters for your Facility

a) Adding Energy Meters

To add energy meters –

  • Head to Settings > Energy Analytics > Energy Meters
  • Energy meters that are active in the facility will be listed here.
  • Click on the button New Energy Meter
  • Input a name, description and select the site where the meter will be installed.

Note: Click here to know more about the recommended nomenclature for naming the assets.

  • Select the Serving Location of the energy meter. (Note: Serving location is where the energy meter will collect the consumption data. For example, an energy meter might be installed on the ground floor of the building but it might be tracking the energy consumption on the fifth floor. Therefore, the serving location in this instance would be the fifth floor.)
  • Select, if the energy meter that you are adding is a ‘root meter’. (Note: Root meters track the energy consumption for an entire building. Sub-meters branch out of root meters to track specific consumption data within the building.)
  • Next, select the Purpose. (Note: This defines the purpose of the energy meter as to what data it is measuring.)
  • Next, provide the Serial Number of the meter and select its physical location.

b) Adding Virtual Meters

Virtual meters as the name suggests are not physical assets that are installed in the facility. They basically track the energy consumption for a particular space/floor or site with the help of formulas.

For example, if you wish to know the specific energy consumption for one particular floor in a building, you can add the readings from the HVAC, AHU, Lights and Lift. This reading can be maintained by a virtual meter, so as to, monitor it periodically.

To add a virtual meter –

  • Head to Settings > Energy Analytics > Energy Meters.
  • Click on the button New Energy Meter
  • Toggle the button ‘Is Virtual Meter’ on.
  • Provide a description of the virtual meter.
  • Select the site where it needs to monitor energy consumption.
  • Select the Serving Location of the energy meter.
  • Select, if the energy meter that you are adding is a ‘root meter’.
  • Next, select the Purpose.
  • In the formula builder, add the meters from which you wish to collect the data. Here you can devise a formula that derives the data that you require.
